Drake announces May release date for 9th studio album ‘Iceman’

Drake has confirmed that his ninth studio album, “Iceman,” will be released on May 15, per variety.com. The announcement followed a multi-day promotional stunt in Toronto where the Canadian rapper froze the release date inside blocks of ice.

A streamer known as Kishka eventually retrieved the information and hand-delivered it to Drake’s residence, where the date was officially revealed and later verified on social media.

The project has been in development since 2024, when Drake first teased the title with references to Val Kilmer’s character in the film Top Gun. Fans were later shown digital folders of work-in-progress tracks, followed by a series of YouTube livestreams in July 2025 titled “Iceman Episode 1”. These sessions debuted several singles, including “What Did I Miss?”, “Which One” featuring Central Cee and “Dog House” featuring Julia Wolf and Yeat.

Iceman represents Drake’s first solo studio LP since 2023’s For All the Dogs. During the interim, the rapper remained prolific, releasing a large collection of unreleased material and behind-the-scenes footage in August 2024. This archival drop included collaborations with Young Thug, 21 Savage, and Latto. He also utilised an Instagram burner account to distribute tracks such as “No Face” featuring Playboi Carti.

In February 2025, Drake released a collaborative album with PartyNextDoor titled Some Sexy Songs 4 U. The record produced the hit single “Nokia” and the track “Somebody Loves Me”, which earned a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

This release follows a period of heightened scrutiny for the artist following a high-profile industry feud with Kendrick Lamar. Iceman is positioned as a significant return to the solo format, consolidating a two-year period of experimental distributions and collaborative projects.
