Taylor Swift named most-streamed artist in Spotify history as platform marks 20th anniversary

Taylor Swift has been named the most-streamed artist in Spotify’s history, according to music-news.com based on data released by the streaming service to mark its 20th anniversary.

The platform published its all-time rankings for the first time on Thursday, revealing the top-performing artists, albums, songs, podcasts and audiobooks since its inception.

Swift leads a top-five artist list that includes Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, Drake, The Weeknd and Ariana Grande. The remaining positions in the top 10 are held by Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Eminem, and Kanye West.

Despite Swift’s overall dominance, Bad Bunny secured the title for the most-streamed album with Un Verano Sin Ti. The Weeknd featured twice in the album top five with “Starboy” in second place and “After Hours” in fourth. Other high-ranking albums include Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Deluxe), Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour and SZA’s SOS.

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, topped the individual song rankings with his 2020 single “Blinding Lights”. He also claimed fourth place with “Starboy”. Ed Sheeran likewise earned two spots in the top 10 with “Shape of You” and “Perfect”, while Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, and Post Malone also featured prominently.

In non-music categories, “The Joe Rogan Experience” was confirmed as the most-streamed podcast of all time. Sarah J. Maas’s “A Court of Thorns and Roses” took the top spot for audiobooks, highlighting the platform’s diversification into spoken-word content over two decades.

Since its launch, Spotify has transformed the global music industry, shifting the primary revenue model from physical and digital sales to subscription-based streaming. These all-time rankings reflect the massive scale of the platform’s user base, which has grown to define modern commercial success for recording artists.
