Whatever language or admixture the poet employs, the poems all share a soothing, intimate quality, and I find their measured rhythms reminiscent of the prosody of the Book of Common Prayer. Perhaps this is the influence of Okoronkwo’s clerical vocation
A good place to start would be Bisola Bada’s i am a body of water (Konya Shamsrumi, 2023). Like Ky’s artwork, the poems in Bada’s slim collection are trained on women’s bodies and the absence of the vocabulary of shame is immediately noticeable.
