Madonna announces new album ‘Confessions II’ inspired by late brother

Madonna has announced the release of her 15th studio album, “Confessions II,” a continuous dance record inspired by the dancefloors of her youth and the memory of her late brother, per mirror.co.uk.

Developed in collaboration with British electronic producer Stuart Price, the album is scheduled for global release on July 3, marking a direct follow-up to her multi-platinum 2005 record Confessions on a Dance Floor.

The 67-year-old pop icon revealed details of the project during a BBC special with television host Graham Norton. The singer explained that the album captures the sense of liberation she experienced before finding fame, describing the dancefloor as a unique space where she still feels entirely free.

Reflecting on her origins in Michigan, the artist credited her first ballet teacher with introducing her to club culture by taking her to Manjos, a gay nightclub in Detroit during the 1970s. She described the experience as a pivotal moment that shaped her understanding of freedom and identity, themes that heavily influence the new material.

The project reunited Madonna with Price, her long-time musical director and producer. The duo recently previewed the album’s direction by debuting two new tracks, “I Feel Free” and “Freedom,” during an unannounced DJ set at The Abbey, a prominent nightclub in Los Angeles.

Madonna recalled her early years navigating the underground club scenes of Detroit and New York with limited resources, adapting her standard dance attire into clubwear. She emphasised that dancing remains her primary escape from public scrutiny and internal pressure, allowing her to disconnect from the anxieties of global celebrity.

This is Madonna’s first major studio album in several years. The preceding record in the series, Confessions on a Dance Floor, won a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album and topped charts in 40 countries.
