Madonna has released her new single, “I Feel So Free,” following a surprise live debut during Sabrina Carpenter’s headline set at Coachella, per nme.com.
The track serves as the first taster of the pop icon’s upcoming studio album, “Confessions II,” which is scheduled for global release on July 3.
The surprise digital drop on April 18 followed a brief period of exclusivity where the track was serviced only to select club DJs and LGBTQ+ station Pride Radio. Despite the official release, the singer has yet to confirm if “I Feel So Free” will serve as the album’s lead single.
Produced alongside longtime collaborator Stuart Price, the track marks a return to the deep house and electronic roots of Madonna’s 2005 multi-platinum record, Confessions on a Dance Floor. The production features a prominent interpolation of the 1989 Chicago house classic “French Kiss” by Lil Louis.
The rollout for the new era began on April 14 with a cryptic website rebrand, followed by a formal announcement on Instagram. Madonna confirmed that the new record will be available in both a 12-track standard edition and a deluxe version featuring four additional bonus tracks.
The singer previously confirmed she had been back in the studio with Price since December 2024. Describing their creative intent for the project, Madonna stated that the duo’s “manifesto” was to treat dance music as a spiritual practice, focusing on celebration and physical movement.
The announcement of Confessions II ends over a year of speculation regarding Madonna’s follow-up to 2019’s Madame X. By revisiting the “Confessions” branding and partnering again with Stuart Price, the artist is leaning into the disco-revival aesthetic that defined one of the most commercially successful periods of her four-decade career.
