Tems wins Billboard Diamond Award

Temilade “Tems” Openiyi just made history at a posh London event this week, according to a report by thebritishblacklist.co.uk.

The Grammy winner snagged Billboard’s Diamond Award at the Global Power Players bash held at trendy Shoreditch House on Wednesday. The glitzy ceremony put Africa’s rising music scene front and centre.

“She leads with real heart and grit,” said Nkosiyati “Yati” Khumalo, who runs the new Billboard Africa branch. The editor praised Tems’ raw sound and never-quit spirit while handing over the shiny prize.

Tems seemed moved by the honour. “Being African and making music opens whole new worlds,” she told the crowd. “Billboard backs not just our songs but our full culture and vibe.”

The “Love Me Jeje” star noted how African beats now reach heights never seen before. She called Billboard a key force pushing that growth forward.

This Diamond Award stems from a cool partnership with Botswana Investment and Trade Centre. The prize links Africa’s ethical mining goals with its booming music exports – both precious resources that shine bright on the world stage.

Tems also scored an epic trip to Botswana’s Chiefs Camp in the famous Okavango Delta. The luxury safari experience comes courtesy of Abercrombie and Kent Travel Group.

The timing feels perfect as African artistes break barriers globally. Tems joins other continental stars making waves beyond home turf, proving local talent has universal appeal.
