Solana faces the dark, finds light on ‘Okunkun’

Solana has released a new single, “Okunkun,” featuring producer and artist Killertunes, exploring themes of faith and emotional resilience in the face of uncertainty.

The song, largely in Yoruba, uses darkness as both a physical image and an emotional state, opening in a space of pressure and instability before shifting towards reflection and trust. Rather than dwelling on fear, the Lagos-based Afro-fusion artist approaches the record as a quiet appeal for light, protection and direction.

The single carries spiritual undertones, with lyrics centred on prayer, grace and divine understanding offsetting its heavier emotional content.

Killertunes’ production takes an atmospheric, understated approach, combining soulful Afro-fusion textures with a measured, meditative tempo that gives the lyrics space to land.

“I wrote ‘Okunkun’ from a very honest place,” Solana said, adding that the song was meant to feel like a quiet conversation with herself and with God, even in moments when life feels heavy and uncertain.

Born Ogunlana Oluwabusolami Habibat, Solana has built her career on themes of honesty and lived experience, developing a sound that draws on Afropop, R&B, dancehall and Afrobeats. “Okunkun” extends that approach, placing personal vulnerability at the centre of the record.

The track is available now on all streaming platforms via ONErpm.
