Timaya has released a new single, “Kontrol,” in collaboration with fellow South-South artist Duncan Mighty, marking a reunion between two performers whose musical chemistry has long resonated with fans.
“Kontrol” sees Timaya reflect on surrendering to love, describing a partner who has taken hold of both his heart and mind. The song centres on loyalty and reciprocated affection, framing romantic commitment as something built through consistent, everyday care rather than grand gestures.
Duncan Mighty contributes his familiar vocal style to the record, lending it additional warmth. The production draws on Afropop and Highlife influences, combining guitar melodies, percussion and sing-along hooks aimed at both celebratory occasions and quieter moments between couples.
“This is a song about appreciating the person who stands by you,” Timaya said. “When you find real love, you hold on to it and give that same love back.”
Timaya has built a two-decade career blending Afrobeats, dancehall and Niger Delta rhythms, establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s most enduring hitmakers. “Kontrol” reunites him with Duncan Mighty, a fellow South-South artist with whom he shares a long-recognised creative rapport.
