Nigerian singer Davido has announced a three-night residency at Lagos’ newly renovated National Theatre from Dec 17 to 19, marking 15 years in the industry and supporting his latest album, Oriadé, per cnn.com.
The 34-year-old artist stated that the homecoming aims to prove African performers can anchor major global music experiences domestically rather than relying exclusively on overseas touring.
Inspired by Bad Bunny’s 2025 residency in Puerto Rico, Davido noted that localised high-profile events drive tourism, cultural promotion, and regional economic activity, capitalising on seasonal December arrivals.
Performances will feature career-spanning tracks and guest collaborators at the National Theatre, which Davido likened in cultural significance to New York’s Madison Square Garden. While acknowledging higher direct payouts overseas, he emphasised local investment and job creation.
The project follows Davido’s continental tour last year, his first multi-country African run in eight years, which renewed his creative focus. Adekunle Gold previously staged a smaller Lagos residency in 2018, making Davido’s engagement a major milestone for Nigerian live music.
Urging industry sustainability, Davido reminded emerging artists not to neglect domestic fanbases.
