Afro B returns with dancefloor single ‘Mapouka’

Afro B has released a new single, “Mapouka,” built around a recurring chant and a groove-led production, designed primarily for dancing rather than storytelling.

“Mapouka” centres on rhythm and repetition, with straightforward lyrics that frame the presence of a confident dancer. The London-born artist’s vocals function as a guide while the production carries the energy forward. The hook recurs throughout, creating the kind of familiarity that invites audience participation from early in the listening experience.

“I wanted something that people can feel instantly, where the rhythm does most of the talking,” Afro B said.

Born Ross-Emmanuel Bayeto in London to Ivorian parents, Afro B grew up between African and diaspora musical cultures. He broke through internationally with “Drogba (Joanna),” a record widely credited with broadening the reach of Afrobeats into markets beyond its traditional base.

“Mapouka” marks a return to that dancefloor-oriented approach, drawing on the spirit of West African dance culture as its primary reference point.

“Mapouka” is out now via ONErpm.
