Tuku Kantu explores unrequited love on new single ‘Almost Lovers’

Tuku Kantu, Kenyan singer and actor, has released “Almost Lovers,” the latest in a series of weekly singles building towards an upcoming album.

The track centres on a connection that never fully became a relationship, shared moments, quiet conversations, sweet nothings and closeness that stopped short of commitment.

Where previous releases such as “Mungu Alipanga” and “Wi Muthaka” explored love and unconventional relationships, “Almost Lovers” turns inward, focusing on unspoken feelings and the uncertainty left in their wake.

The production is sparse, led by an acoustic guitar that tracks his vocals closely and reflects the song’s mood of restraint and unresolved longing. The lyrics dwell on messages left unsent and missed opportunities. “This song is about the moments you replay in your head, the things you wish you said, and the people who almost became everything,” Kantu said.

“Almost Lovers” is available on streaming platforms through ONErpm.
