Skales links up with Elams for sun-soaked ‘Joanna’

Skales has released a new single, “Joanna,” in collaboration with Elams. Produced by SIMAO, the uptempo track is anchored by bouncing percussion, bright piano melodies and repetitive, chant-like hooks, building a mood centred on confidence and celebration.

The Nigerian Afropop artist frames success as both ambition and lifestyle, referencing “methods,” “net worth” and “network” across the record.

Elams, his France-based counterpart, contributes multilingual verses and international references, broadening the track’s appeal beyond a single market. The pairing leans on mood over narrative, with nods to nightlife, fashion, luxury and football culture giving the song its character while keeping the tone light.

“I wanted to make something people can enjoy instantly and carry with them all summer,” Skales said. “It’s about good energy, confidence and enjoying the moment.”

SIMAO’s production keeps the rhythm consistent throughout, a choice aimed at giving the track replay value through its hook-driven structure.

Skales has built a near two-decade career in Afropop, moving from an early breakout act to a consistent hitmaker with records that have found traction in clubs, on radio and with international audiences. “Joanna” continues that trajectory, extending his catalogue of collaborative, dancefloor-oriented releases.

The single is available now via ONErpm.
