J’Dess has released a new single titled “Honey,” an Afro-R&B track exploring the comfort and stability found in unconditional love.
“Honey” tells the story of a partner who offers steady support through every season of life, with the Nigerian singer-songwriter born Joy Chioma Ebiem, reflecting on the instant connection she felt when they first met and how that bond has deepened over time.
The track blends mellow percussion, warm melodies and layered vocal harmonies, sitting within the Afro-R&B and Afro-fusion space. Its understated production leaves space for the lyrics, lending itself to quiet listening as well as intimate live performances.
“‘Honey’ is my way of celebrating the kind of love that brings peace and makes you feel safe to be yourself,” J’Dess said, adding that she hoped listeners would be reminded of the value of loving and being loved deeply.
J’Dess began her career in gospel music before moving into Nigeria’s contemporary scene, where she has built a sound combining soul, Afropop and narrative songwriting. “Honey” continues that trajectory, centring on emotional honesty rather than the more upbeat, dancefloor-oriented records common in Afropop.
