The Tube Awards, an event totally dedicated to the television industry, will be unveiled today, Sunday, February 13 at Eko Hotel in Lagos.
Tube Afrique, organisers of the awards, say that the event tagged “Love in a Box” is a precursor to the awards that are set to revolutionise the television industry in Nigeria.
According to a statement, the event, which will have multi-level players in the television industry in attendance, will bring stakeholders up to speed on plans for the first edition of the awards later in the year.
The event has the support of the management of Eko Hotels Limited.
The statement issued by Executive Director, Tube Afrique, Niran Adedokun, noted that: “This is the first time in Nigeria the TV industry will be getting a well-deserved spotlight. It will be a night of a mixture of glamour and the serious, and we are excited to share what we have in store for the industry.”
Speaking on the award, Temitope Duker, Director of Tube Afrique, organisers of the awards, noted that apart from rewarding the hard work of creative and technical professionals in the industry, the organisation also plans to nurture talents as well as partner with other stakeholders to develop capacity.
Duker, while assuring that there are exciting moments for television lovers in Nigeria, noted that the awards will not just be another glamorous event, even though “glamour and TV go together, but with Tube Afrique, we are pushing the envelope further. We are looking forward to having an Academy where young talents seeking a place in TV can be properly groomed in the arts and business of television and give the veterans a chance to mentor them. There are also plans to launch a foundation that will solely be dedicated to this cause. So, you see we have lofty plans.”
Devoted to recognising and celebrating the outstanding individuals who work tenaciously to tell captivating stories that reflect our culture and identity on the small screen, Tube Afrique says the award will reward achievements in the artistic and technical fields of TV production in Nigeria and Africa.
The unveiling, it adds, will serve as a platform to intimate practitioners and stakeholders on the peculiarities of the awards and receive feedback from them.
The organising committee, while thanking Eko Hotels for supporting the event, promised that the night will be punctuated with music from a live band.
