Early reviews for Paramount Pictures’ action thriller Heart of the Beast praise the Brad Pitt-led survival drama ahead of its September 25 cinema release, per movieweb.com.
Directed by David Ayer and reuniting the filmmaker with Pitt following 2014’s Fury, the PG-13 feature runs 101 minutes and follows former Special Forces soldier James Belmont (Pitt) stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his combat dog, Odin.
Critics have responded positively to the visceral survival sequences and the central human-canine dynamic. British critic Luke Hearfield described the film as “impeccably well executed” with “heart-tugging dog acting,” while Joe Magidson noted the intense, high-stakes premise despite minimal characterisation. Brandon Davis labelled the feature an “emotionally vicious story.” J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe round out the cast.
The project provides a critical rebound opportunity for Ayer following mixed receptions for recent directorial efforts
