‘Sinners’ tops Easter box office with $48m from 3,308 theatres

Ryan Coogler’s eerie vampire flick, Sinners, starring the ever-compelling Michael B. Jordan, has risen to box office glory over the Easter weekend, per hollywoodreporter.com. The Warner Bros. release defied expectations, pulling in a remarkable $48 million domestically from 3,308 theatres, surpassing both initial forecasts and Sunday estimates.

This supernatural thriller, lauded by critics and audiences alike, not only snatched the top spot but also widened its lead over the seemingly unstoppable A Minecraft Movie, which landed in second place with a still-impressive $40.5 million in its third week.

This Easter victory marks a significant win for Warner Bros., making them the first studio since 2009 to have two films gross over $40 million in the same weekend. While Minecraft continues its global domination, crossing the $700 million mark with a current worldwide total of $717.8 million, Sinners’ impressive debut, coupled with a stellar 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and an ‘A’ CinemaScore, signals a strong run ahead.

Notably, Sinners drew a diverse audience, with Black moviegoers comprising 38% of ticket buyers, followed by White (35%), Latino (18%), Asian (5%) and Native American/Other (4%).
