Warner Bros. has confirmed that the upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel will be set during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, per variety.com.
Starring Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, the film shifts focus from Danny Ocean to his parents, portraying them as masterminds executing an ambitious heist at the historic Formula One circuit.

Speaking at CinemaCon during a preview of the studio’s 2027 slate, Robbie revealed that the narrative explores the origins of the Ocean family’s criminal expertise. Robbie and Cooper are expected to portray the parents of the character made famous by George Clooney in the 2001 franchise reboot.
Bradley Cooper will also direct the project following the departures of Lee Isaac Chung and Jay Roach. The screenplay is being developed by Carrie Solomon, with Robbie producing via her LuckyChap banner. Production is scheduled to commence later this year, targeting a 2027 theatrical release.
The announcement comes as George Clooney separately develops a sequel to the original trilogy, featuring the return of the primary cast including Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. The prequel remains part of a broader expansion of the franchise under Warner Bros.
The studio reported a significant financial recovery in 2025, with seven consecutive releases opening above $40 million. Reaching a $4.4 billion global box office benchmark for the first time since 2019, Warner Bros. attributed this success to a diverse production slate including titles such as *Sinners* and A Minecraft Movie.
The Ocean’s franchise has been a cornerstone of the heist genre since Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 remake of the 1960 Rat Pack original. By moving the setting to 1960s Europe, the prequel aligns the series with the era of the original film while establishing a new genealogical backstory for its central protagonist.
