Mariah Carey has revealed the heartbreaking loss of both her mother and sister on the same day last weekend, per hollywoodreporter.com. The Grammy-winning artiste shared the tragic news on Monday, expressing her deep sorrow over the dual loss.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey told The Hollywood Reporter. She added that she feels fortunate to have spent her mother’s final week by her side and thanked her supporters for their love and respect during this difficult time.
Carey did not disclose the cause of death or the ages of her mother and sister. According to her 2020 memoir, the singer’s relationship with her mother, Patricia, was marked by a complex mix of emotions, including pride, pain and admiration. Despite their challenges, Carey dedicated the memoir to her mother.
Her relationship with her sister, Alison, was also fraught, with Carey stating in the book that it was safer to avoid contact with Alison and their brother, Morgan. The three siblings were the children of Patricia and Alfred Carey, who divorced when Mariah was just three years old. Their father passed away around two decades ago.
