Lil Wayne failed to appear for the opening night of his highly anticipated North American tour in Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday night, per ew.com.
The performance at the Maine Savings Amphitheater was scheduled to launch the American rapper’s “20 Years of Carter Classics” tour, but fans were informed at 11pm, 15 minutes after his designated stage time, that the show was cancelled.
The 43-year-old artist, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, left thousands of attendees disappointed. While supporting act 2 Chainz and a tour DJ performed their scheduled sets, the headliner remained absent without immediate explanation.
Concertgoers expressed significant frustration, with many having travelled long distances across North America to attend. One fan reported driving more than six hours from Nova Scotia, Canada, while another travelled from Rhode Island, noting that the rapper is frequently late but rarely cancels entirely.
The current “20 Years of Carter Classics” tour is designed to celebrate Lil Wayne’s multi-platinum album series and is scheduled to run through October, with upcoming dates in Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles. The rapper is next scheduled to perform on Thursday in Saratoga Springs, New York.
This is not the first time the Grammy-winning artist has disrupted his own touring schedule. Local records indicate that Lil Wayne has established a history of late cancellations, having previously missed scheduled performances in major cities including Toronto, Miami, Minneapolis and Los Angeles.
