Goethe-Institut postpones reopening of Lagos office over delayed construction

Goethe-Institut Nigeria has postponed the planned reopening of its Lagos office on November 4, 2026, due to ongoing construction delays at its new Victoria Island premises.

The cultural organisation had initially scheduled a special reopening celebration featuring an international stage programme and curated art presentations at its new location on Anifowoshe Street.

However, management announced that construction work at the venue has taken longer than anticipated, rendering the site unready to receive visitors.

Social Media and PR Officer Bemuter Victor Tilley-Gyado stated that the institute chose to delay the event to ensure the premises are fully completed before welcoming guests, rather than opening an active construction site.

The organisation confirmed that the reopening has been pushed back by a few weeks, with a new date set to be announced shortly.

The delay marks a temporary setback in the institute’s planned return to full operations in Lagos following months of extensive renovation works aimed at establishing a new chapter in Nigeria.
