The Miles Morland Foundation has released its 20-strong shortlist for the 2026 Morland African Writing Scholarships, drawing from a pool of more than 600 submissions submitted by published authors across 32 countries.
Judges selected the finalists based on literary merit using the combined scores of experienced readers.
The shortlist features authors representing nations including Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Egypt, Mauritius, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
The judging panel will now evaluate the finalists to select four ultimate winners. The final selection will take place on November 19, with the official winners announced on November 20.
Established to support African literature and help amplify African voices, the annual scholarships provide recipients with financial backing to write new work.
