Drena De Niro has said her father, Robert De Niro, attempted to set her up with Brad Pitt while the actors were working on the 1996 crime drama Sleepers, giving Pitt her phone number during a visit to De Niro’s trailer, per parade.com.
Speaking on comedian Jessica Kirson’s podcast, Drena said her father introduced Pitt as someone he wanted her to meet and described his daughter as “very nice” and independent before urging the actor to call her.
Drena, 59, said De Niro also told Pitt that he would not interfere if a relationship did not work out. Pitt accepted the number but did not make contact.
She later learned that Pitt had apologised to De Niro for not calling because he had just become engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow. Pitt and Paltrow dated from 1994 to 1997.
Drena said she was upset by the encounter, though De Niro maintained that Pitt would remain curious about what might have happened had he called.
De Niro and Pitt appeared together in Sleepers, the Barry Levinson-directed crime drama released in 1996, alongside Kevin Bacon and Dustin Hoffman.
