Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the fastest movie in history to cross the $900 million threshold in domestic theatres, achieving the milestone in just 36 days, per the-independent.com.
The Marvel-Sony project, starring Tom Holland, surpassed the previous domestic speed record held by 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which reached the milestone in 50 days.
Supported by a projected $22 million over the Labor Day weekend, its domestic total has climbed to $922 million, placing it within striking distance of The Force Awakens’ all-time domestic record of $936 million.
Globally, the film has grossed $2.33 billion, making it the third highest-grossing movie of all time behind Avatar at $2.9 billion and Avengers: Endgame at $2.7 billion. It recently surpassed Avatar: The Way of Water, which finished its run at $2.3 billion.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film has also drawn critical acclaim and is projected to earn lead actor Tom Holland more than $100 million once backend bonuses are factored into his $20 million upfront salary.
