Christopher Nolan has revealed that his 2010 blockbuster Inception serves as his personal interpretation of a James Bond film, drawing deep inspiration from the 007 franchise, per bgr.com.
Released as a globe-trotting sci-fi thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception integrated sweeping international espionage tropes with mind-bending concepts.
Speaking to Empire in 2010, Nolan acknowledged his lifelong admiration for the spy series, stating that he had been ruthlessly plundering elements from Bond films throughout his career.
The 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, starring George Lazenby, heavily shaped the emotional core of Inception. Nolan noted that the classic 007 feature provided a blueprint for balancing large-scale action with tragedy and romance, which directly influenced the doomed love story between DiCaprio’s character, Cobb, and his late wife, Mal. The snow-covered mountain fortress climax in Inception also mirrors the setting of the 1969 movie.
While Denis Villeneuve has since been chosen to direct the next instalment in the franchise following Daniel Craig’s departure, Nolan has frequently expressed that tackling a 007 feature would be an amazing privilege, provided it happened at the right creative moment.
