Michael Byrne, veteran British actor, dies at 82

Michael Byrne, the British character actor known for playing the villainous Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, has died at the age of 82, reports parade.com.

The actor’s death was reported by The Sun on Tuesday, June 30. Born in London in November 1943, Byrne began his acting career in his 20s and built a prolific resume across film and television.

Beyond his work in blockbuster franchises, Byrne was a familiar face on British television. He played Ted Page, the long-lost father of Gail Platt, on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.

His extensive filmography also includes supporting roles in major productions such as Braveheart, the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, and Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York.

Tributes have been paid by fans on social media, with one user commenting on his skill as a screen villain. The actor’s career spanned over 50 years, establishing him as a recognisable figure in both British and international cinema.
