Nigeria’s film sector will fall under the spotlight on June 6 as actors and producers gather for the Filmmakers’ Forum to debate the constraints of conventional storytelling in Nollywood.
According to details from the organisers, the virtual seminar is themed “Navigating Uncommon Narratives in Nollywood”. Organised by the Nollywood Studies Centre of the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, the event will feature prominent industry insiders Daniel Etim-Effiong and Uzor Arukwe.

The speakers will draw from their respective multi-disciplinary backgrounds, with Etim-Effiong contributing insights as an actor and director, and Arukwe bringing perspective as an actor and producer. The conversation will examine the operational and cultural realities of pursuing cinematic themes that deviate from the industry’s dominant production formulas.

The panel aims to evaluate how genre experimentation and socially conscious storytelling affect creativity, market relevance, and viewer engagement. The forum will also look at how these choices shape the evolving landscape of Nigerian cinema. The session will stream live on Microsoft Teams on June 6 from 11am to 1pm.
