Mightyyout unveils star-studded debut EP, “Mightyyard”

Lagos-based Afro-dancehall sensation and Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) signee, Mightyyout (pronounced Mighty Yute), has officially released his highly anticipated debut EP, Mightyyard. The focused, seven-track project is a potent distillation of dancehall fire, Afrobeats bounce, and the raw grit of Lagos street life, arriving with significant buzz following a string of successful teaser tracks and sold-out live performances.

The EP has already been championed by African tastemakers like The NATIVE, Pulse Nigeria, and NotJustOK, and its momentum is cemented by two major collaborations: Afrobeats legend Davido features on “I Know,” while Dancehall icon Popcaan brings his signature flavour to “Ibadi.”

Mightyyard is a powerful statement of resilience forged in hardship. Born in Rivers State, Mightyyout’s journey to the microphone has been marked by survival. After escaping a near-fatal attack in Port Harcourt and fleeing to Lagos under threat, he suffered a serious motor accident that left him on crutches for eight months.

This difficult path shaped his unique creative process. Returning to the booth after a hiatus, Mightyyout discovered a ritual that anchors his craft: recording in total darkness. As he describes it, “No lights. No eyes. Just me, the mic, and whatever spirit shows up.”

From a vault of over 500 songs, he carved Mightyyard into a concise narrative that balances club-ready heat with mindful lyricism. Tracks flow fluidly between romantic pull-ups and street anthems, with the closing track, “Story,” offering an unvarnished testimony of faith and forward motion. Driven by his soul-stirring vocals and infectious melodies, and with sublime production from collaborators like Oracle and Wondavii, the project showcases an artist engineered for global arenas while retaining the colour and cadence of the streets that shaped him.

Mightyyout views the EP as a deeply personal triumph. “This EP means the world to me. Most importantly, it means freedom,” he stated. “For the longest time, I’ve held these songs hostage, and finally letting them out now means more will follow. My heart is at peace knowing the world will now get to experience the talent God has blessed me with.”

He notes that his challenges inspired him to embrace his distinct sound. “I knew I had to do something special with this EP, because I know I’m different—in how I make music and how I connect with it. That inspired me to embrace the process, take the struggles in front of me, and turn them into something beautiful.”

With a fast-growing audience, particularly in the UK which leads his streaming footprint, Mightyyard serves as a foundation stone for Mightyyout’s global vision. It is roots, resilience, and rhythm distilled into seven tracks that capture the duality powering his rise: a global sound with an unmistakably Nigerian voice.
