Skales drops new high-energy single “Mental” ahead of upcoming album

Skales is back with a bang, dropping the electrifying new single “Mental,” a powerful precursor to his highly anticipated album, “Martina’s Son.” The track, produced by his longtime collaborator Jaypizzle, is a masterclass in blending nostalgia with futuristic Afro-pop, showcasing the artiste’s enduring fire and flair.

“Mental” serves as both a homage and a revival, paying tribute to the iconic early 2000s Naija street anthems, particularly Faze’s legendary “Kolomental.” However, this is no mere remake. From the opening “Oh oh oh oh” ad-libs, the song grabs hold with a familiar spirit, but quickly carves its own path with fresh production and bold, self-assured lyricism. Skales expertly weaves punchy lines and cultural references into a rhythm designed for clubs and late-night drives.

The song is a celebration of Skales’ journey, where he doesn’t just talk about success, he lives it out loud. He name-drops Nigerian elite icons like Obi Cubana and Eze, alongside global nightlife references, creating a vivid picture of his opulent reality. With lines like “I gat a lot of paper chilling in my Sean John,” he chronicles his achievements with a brash swagger that feels earned. When he revives the classic line “Start to craze / Scatter the place show yourself,” he’s not just quoting history—he’s stepping back into it on his own terms, proving his staying power in the music scene.

With “Mental,” Skales confidently reintroduces himself as a force to be reckoned with, leaving no doubt that his upcoming album will be a landmark project in his storied career.
