The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has cemented its position as a global powerhouse, announcing a staggering, all-time high of 10,717 entries for its 2025 edition. This unprecedented turnout shatters the previous record of 9,076 entries and highlights the platform’s growing influence as the premier destination for celebrating and promoting African music worldwide.
According to a statement, the submission window, which closed on August 8, welcomed a diverse range of entries, from established artistes and producers to video directors, dancers and even unrecorded talents. The surge in participation underscores a burgeoning confidence among African musicians and creators that AFRIMA is the ultimate stage for global recognition.
Geographically, West Africa dominated the submissions with 5,215 entries, accounting for nearly 50% of the total. Southern Africa followed with 2,080 entries, while Eastern Africa contributed 804. The remaining entries came from Northern Africa (267), Central Africa (291), and the African diaspora (75), showcasing the award’s extensive reach across the continent and beyond.
A 13-member International Jury, comprising seasoned music professionals, began the rigorous adjudication process on August 8 in Lagos, Nigeria. The jury will screen, categorise and score entries based on originality, quality, impact, and cultural relevance until August 17. The final list of nominees will be announced on August 24, marking the official start of the global voting period.
Adam Tiran, a Jury member representing Southern Africa, remarked on the impressive numbers, stating, “This record number of entries is a powerful testament to the vibrant, creative, and unstoppable force that is African music today. It signals a growing belief among artists that AFRIMA provides a respected, global platform where their work can truly shine.”
The voting period will commence on September 5, allowing fans and the AFRIMA Academy to cast their votes for their favourite nominees via the official website, afrima.org. All votes will be audited by an international firm to ensure transparency and credibility.
The AFRIMA 2025 main events are scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from November 25 to 30. The week-long celebration will feature the Africa Music Business Summit, the AFRIMA Music Village Concert, and the highly anticipated Awards Night, which will be broadcast live to over 84 countries, bringing the vibrant sound of African music to a global audience.
