Lagos publishing house Noisy Streetss launches literary advisory division

Lagos-based publishing house and media company Noisy Streetss has launched a dedicated literary advisory division to provide strategic, editorial and distribution services to authors, independent publishers and cultural organisations.

Announced on April 29, according to a statement, the new arm aims to bridge the infrastructure and logistical gaps that often restrict the commercial reach of independent African literature.

The newly established division will offer specialised services including retail pricing advisory, marketing strategy, reader mapping, book distribution and international inventory management. It will also provide book cover development, author branding, financial planning and industry intelligence reports. These services, according to the company, aim to democratise access to high-level publishing infrastructure, which has traditionally been concentrated within major international publishing houses.

The initiative addresses persistent structural challenges within the African literary market, where writers frequently contend with fragmented distribution networks, lack of transparent retail data and expensive cross-border logistics. These bottlenecks often hinder independent book sales and limit the financial sustainability of self-published and independent creators.

Modupe Daramola, founder and lead strategist at Noisy Streetss, stated that the advisory arm seeks to remove these structural and strategic frictions by combining market diagnostics, distribution strategy and operational execution into a single workflow. The objective is to assist creators in converting cultural value into measurable revenue streams.

“African markets produce abundant stories but lack consistent

distribution infrastructure, appropriate strategy, transparent retail data and affordable cross-border logistics. These constraints prevent many books from reaching scale and limit authors ’ commercial prospects. Noisy Streetss closes that gap by integrating market advisory, distribution strategy and operational execution into a single workflow. We focus on removing structural and strategic friction, so titles convert cultural value into measurable revenue,” Daramola, said.

For Benedict Onwudinjo, projects officer, Noisy Streetss (Advisory), “What excites me about this is thepossibility of working directly at the intersection of craft and commerce, helping writers understand not just how to make the work, but how to ensure the work finds its way into the world, and survives there. That’s a different kind of editorial conversation, and one we’re ready to have.”

As the global book market continues to consolidate around a few major publishers, independent literary voices increasingly face pressure from algorithmic discoverability and diminishing critical infrastructure. Benedict Onwudinjo, projects officer at Noisy Streetss Advisory, noted that the division intends to work at the intersection of craft and commerce, helping writers understand how to ensure their work finds its way into the global market.

Noisy Streetss has opened its initial cohort of advisory engagements, offering priority access to authors currently developing manuscripts and independent publishers with active backlists.
