Taylor Swift may reclaim original recordings: sources

Taylor Swift may finally have the opportunity to reclaim the original master recordings of her first six albums, sources exclusively tell pagesix.com. The potential deal comes five years after the highly public and acrimonious sale of her catalogue to music mogul Scooter Braun, a move that sparked one of the bitterest feuds in modern music history.

The albums at the heart of the negotiation – Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation – were originally sold to Braun for $300 million in 2019. Swift famously accused Braun of being a “bully” and subsequently began re-recording her entire catalogue as “Taylor’s Versions” to regain control and ownership.

Now, investment firm Shamrock Capital, which purchased the masters from Braun a year later, is reportedly looking to sell them back to Swift. Even more astonishing? Sources reveal that Scooter Braun himself is “encouraging” the deal to take place.

Industry experts, like Clayton Durant of CAD Management, estimate the price tag for Swift to re-acquire her masters could range from $600 million to $1 billion. However, Durant asserts it would be a savvy business move, significantly increasing her publishing royalties and granting her full control over licensing.

This development comes hot on the heels of Swift debuting the first re-recording from her Reputation (Taylor’s Version) album, Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version), on a recent episode of The Handmaid’s Tale.
