EFM 2025: Star-studded lineup and genre gems heat up Berlin’s European Film Market

The European Film Market (EFM) 2025 is set to ignite Berlin with a dazzling array of star-driven projects and genre-defying films, as the industry gathers to showcase its most anticipated titles, per variety.com. With a new market head, Tanja Meissner, steering the ship, this year’s lineup promises to thaw the winter chill with a mix of high-octane thrillers, haunting horror and laugh-out-loud comedies.

Leading the charge is Samuel L. Jackson in Ernest Dickerson’s untitled hitman thriller, where the veteran actor plays a retired assassin pulled back into the game to save his nephew from the mob. Meanwhile, Ari Aster and A24 reunite for “Eddington,” a mysterious small-town drama starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Austin Butler.

Horror fans won’t want to miss Isabelle Huppert’s chilling turn in “The Blood Countess,” a 16th-century vampire mystery directed by Ulrike Ottinger. On the lighter side, Tiffany Haddish and James Franco team up for “Toad,” a psychedelic stoner comedy that promises to be a wild ride.

Barry Keoghan and Riley Keough shine in Kantemir Balagov’s “Butterfly Jam,” a poignant exploration of family and identity within a tight-knit immigrant community. And for those craving action, Guy Ritchie’s “Wife & Dog” brings Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike into the treacherous world of British aristocracy.

With genre-bending titles like “Bad Boy” (a horror film told from a dog’s perspective) and star-packed comedies like “The Shitheads” (featuring Dave Franco and Peter Dinklage), EFM 2025 proves that bold storytelling and bankable stars remain the industry’s winning formula.

As the market kicks off on February 13, all eyes are on Berlin to see if this year’s EFM will reignite the spending sprees of years past. One thing’s for sure: the heat is on.
