The Bronx native is the first woman rapper to certify the RIAA milestone by way of a single.
Cardi B’s breakout single, “Bodak Yellow,” has hit a new milestone. Since its debut on June 16, 2017, the J. White Did It-produced single officially reached the Recording Industry Association of America’s Diamond status yesterday (March 8). It is now 10x multi-platinum at 10 Million certified units, according to the RIAA’s official website.
The RIAA celebrated the occasion tweeting, “Congratulations to @iamcardib, the first female rapper to achieve a RIAA 💎 single award! #BodakYellow @AtlanticRecords.” In the wee hours of last night, Cardi took to her own Twitter account to say that she was surprised with some exciting news that would be shared at a later time. Little did she know, the “Bardi” fans already knew.
Shortly after, she tweeted, “WTFFF !!! How the heiiilllll yall already now ???I can’t 😩😩😩 I’ll be back later .DEUM YA BE KNOWING EERRTHANG!” (Cardi, now you know your fans stay on it.)
Since her major album debut with Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1, the VIBE Viva cover star has hit other career milestones: She was the first female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart in nearly 19 years; Cardi became the first woman to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album; she was the first woman rapper to hit 1 billion YouTube views for her “I Like It” music video featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
