Tyla’s “Water” tops US Afrobeats Songs chart, ending Rema and Selena Gomez’s 58-week run

South African singer Tyla’s song “Water” has made history by hitting No. 1 on the US Afrobeats Songs chart, ending the 58-week run of Rema and Selena Gomez’s song “Calm Down”.

The track, which was released in July 2023, has been gaining popularity rapidly and has been trending on social media due to its catchy Afrobeats tune and dance choreography. Tyla’s achievement is remarkable considering that she is a relatively new artiste who has only been releasing music for a few years. Her success is a testament to the growing popularity of Afrobeats music in the United States, a genre that originated in West Africa and has been gaining traction in recent years.

The success of artistes like Tyla, Rema, Tems, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy is helping to introduce Afrobeats music to a wider audience.
