Readbug LitFest, Abuja’s premier children’s literary festival, is set to inspire young minds with its 2026 edition, themed “Stories That Build Worlds.”
Returning on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the festival brings together children, families, educators, authors and publishers to foster a lifelong passion for reading and creative expression.
Building on its successful 2025 debut, this year’s programme features interactive storytelling workshops, writer meet-and-greets, and the flagship Readbug Spelling Bee, a friendly academic competition designed to boost vocabulary and confidence across primary and junior secondary pupils.
Beyond the main event at Merrymakers Event Centre, Wuse 2, organisers are calling on schools, literacy advocates and corporate partners to join forces in broadening access to books for young Nigerians.
“Children deserve stories that expand their horizons and spark their imagination,” says Festival Organiser Aysha Abdullahi. “We want to make reading an exciting adventure rather than a classroom chore, whilst uniting the community behind the next generation of readers.”
With Stories That Build Worlds as its guiding theme, Readbug LitFest 2026 celebrates the role of literature in shaping young minds, inspiring creativity and helping children make sense of themselves and the world around them.
