Hilary Swank announces pregnancy with third child at age 52

Hilary Swank has announced she is pregnant with her third child at the age of 52, per cbsnews.com.

The star and her husband, Philip Schneider, shared the news via a video on social media, revealing that their new arrival is expected in December.

The announcement comes three years after Swank gave birth to twins, daughter Aya and son Ohm, at age 48. In the social media reveal, the family danced with glowsticks taped to their bodies before showcasing Swank’s baby bump, accompanied by a caption teasing her next upcoming project.

Medical experts noted that conceiving at age 52 is exceptionally rare, as most women in this age bracket are transitioning into menopause. Dr Kameelah Phillips, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, explained that while ovarian function typically declines at this stage, the uterus can still carry a pregnancy through in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

Due to the heightened physiological demands of pregnancy later in life, Swank is likely under the care of a specialist maternal-fetal medicine team. Older prospective mothers face elevated risks of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes, and an increased likelihood of requiring a Caesarean section.

Following the birth of her twins, Swank reflected on the timing of her journey into motherhood, sharing that embarking on parenthood later in life allowed her to fully dedicate herself to her acting career first before focusing entirely on raising a family.

Context Paragraph: Swank’s announcement highlights a growing cultural and medical conversation surrounding late-in-life pregnancies. Advances in reproductive technology, such as IVF and donor eggs, have increasingly enabled women in their late 40s and 50s to carry children, though high-risk care remains standard practice.
