Michael Mann was taken to hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a Los Angeles gun range on Saturday, according to tmz.com and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
A source told TMZ that the Heat director was apparently trying to holster his weapon at around 4pm when it went off. He was later taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition has not been disclosed.
The LAPD confirmed the incident, saying police officers and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to The Range LA after reports of a shooting.
Police said Mann, who did not intend to harm himself, was injured in a training accident when he accidentally discharged a firearm into his own leg.
TMZ said it had contacted Mann’s representative for comment but had received no response at the time of publication.
Mann is an American filmmaker best known for crime thrillers including Heat, Collateral and The Insider.
