Jennifer Garner advocates for increased film production in Los Angeles

Jennifer Garner has highlighted the importance of keeping film and television production in Los Angeles, citing the need to support local crew members and maintain work-life balance for industry families, deadline.com reports.

Garner, currently starring in the Peacock series The Five-Star Weekend, stated that she has prioritised working in Hollywood whenever possible. She expressed concern that the industry is gradually losing its footprint in the city, noting her long-standing professional relationships with local crew members built over the last 30 years. Beyond the professional impact, Garner emphasised that keeping production local allows industry professionals to remain with their families and maintain stability.

The debate over production incentives has intensified following a 16.1% decline in on-location filming in Los Angeles during 2025. While the final quarter of that year saw a slight increase due to the California Film & TV Tax Credit Program, the industry remains focused on long-term sustainability.

The issue has become a key policy platform for local leadership, with Mayor Karen Bass and her opponent Nithya Raman both advocating for the removal of the cap on California’s $750 million film and television tax incentives programme. Proponents argue that uncapping these credits is essential to ensuring the state remains competitive against other production hubs.

The television series The Five-Star Weekend, based on the novel by Elin Hilderbrand, was filmed in both Los Angeles and Nantucket. The project, developed by Bekah Brunstetter, features an ensemble cast including Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan and Timothy Olyphant.
