Hanna embraces her identity as “Lover Girl” on new Afropop single

Hanna has released her new single “Lover Girl”, a track in which the South Africa-based artist explores multiple facets of identity through shifting moods and unflinching self-acceptance.

The song opens with a looping chant that sets the tone for a personal and direct examination of what it means to feel deeply and own that feeling without reservation.

Hanna moves through playful and intense registers across the track, each moment building a cumulative portrait of someone at peace with the full range of her emotions.

Drawing on Zimbabwean and Ethiopian roots, Hanna first gained attention through viral freestyles while studying at the University of Cape Town, where her blend of rap delivery and melodic vocals distinguished her. She has since developed a sound that moves across hip-hop, R&B and pop, anchored in self-expression.

“This is me owning every side of myself,” she said of the release. “Being a lover girl is not something I hide from, it is how I move through the world.”

“Lover Girl” is available now on all major streaming platforms via ONErpm.
