Enyinna Nwigwe has added another feather to his cap by winning the Overall Best Actor award at the 2024 edition of the Cameroon International Film Festival (CAMIFF).
The announcement was made during the festival’s closing ceremony held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from April 20 to April 25, according to a statement.
Nwigwe was honoured for his remarkable performance in the Caribbean action drama, Choke Hold, where he starred alongside Jamaican actress, Sherando Ferril.
Reacting to the news, Nwigwe expressed his gratitude, stating, “Yours truly was presented with an ‘Overall Best Actor’ award at the just concluded Cameroon International Film Festival for my role in the Caribbean movie, Choke Hold.”
Choke Hold also secured the Best Screenplay award, further highlighting the film’s excellence. The movie, which premiered in December 2023, addresses the sensitive issue of domestic violence and has received widespread acclaim.
Produced, written and directed by Joel Ayuk, Choke Hold features a diverse cast and crew of Caribbean, African and North American film professionals.
Renowned for his versatility and compelling performances, Nwigwe has previously showcased his talent in cross-continental film productions such as All About Love (South Africa) and Black November, where he shared the screen with global icons like Vivica Fox, Kim Basinger, Akon and Wyclef Jean.
Nwigwe’s win at CAMIFF 2024 is yet another testament to his exceptional talent and the growing influence of Nollywood on the global stage.
