Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has opened up about testing positive for COVID-19, Digital Spy reports.
The platform says Jack – who plays David Platt – revealed he’d been away from work in the latest episode of the Sofa Cinema Club podcast, which he hosts alongside co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price.
As the three chatted about their start to the year, Jack opened up about his positive test, saying: “I had the ‘vid. It caught me. No symptoms, nothing.”
The Corrie favourite explained that he began to suspect something wasn’t right when he was in the shower.
“I’m in the shower Monday morning, and I can’t smell the shampoo,” he recalled. “And I go, ‘This is weird.’ Shower gel, nothing.”
After questioning whether he couldn’t smell his new Christmas shower gel because he’d “never used it before” – “I’m not sure whether it’s just shit or if I can’t smell it” – Jack hopped out the shower and brushed his teeth.
The actor then called into work after realising he couldn’t taste “any” toothpaste or mouthwash. After being advised to take a lateral flow test by Corrie bosses, Jack explained that it returned a positive result.
Jack’s sense of taste and smell are however now back.
“I can taste my shower gel,” he joked. “And I can smell my cooking. Everything’s back… Other than the smell and taste, I wouldn’t have known that I got it.”
