Donald Glover has officially announced the imminent arrival of new music under his musical alter ego, Childish Gambino.
In an interview with TMZ, Glover shared that he has been diligently crafting the upcoming album in the studio, teasing fans with the promise of its release in the near future. This revelation marks the end of a nearly four-year hiatus since the drop of Childish Gambino’s last album, 3.15.20, in March 2020.
However, the excitement surrounding the announcement is tempered by recent allegations of mistreatment related to Glover’s third studio album, Awaken, My Love!, released in 2016. Giannina Antonette Oteto, the model featured on the album cover, took to Facebook to disclose grievances of being “taken advantage of and lied to,” particularly concerning financial compensation for her, the stylist and the makeup artist.
In a poignant post, Oteto expressed the challenges she faced in celebrating the album, citing low pay and unfulfilled promises of residuals. She highlighted disparities in compensation, alleging that only a white woman who was not on set received residuals for creating a headpiece. Oteto lamented the emotional toll of the ordeal, emphasising the pride they felt representing black artistes. Despite efforts by her lawyer to communicate with Glover and his team, all attempts, she said, have reportedly been met with silence.
