Bookcraft Africa announces pre-order launch for ‘999: The Memoir of Charly Boy’

Bookcraft Africa has announced the opening of pre-orders for “999: The Memoir of Charly Boy,” an upcoming autobiography detailing the life, career and social activism of Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa.

The Nigerian publisher disclosed the pre-order launch on June 24, framing the book as both a personal memoir and a cultural record of a public persona that has influenced contemporary youth culture and self-expression in Nigeria for decades.

The text tracks the life of Oputa from his early years raised in a prominent judicial family to his evolution into “Charly Boy,” an iconic and often controversial figure in the West African entertainment landscape.

According to Bookcraft Africa, the book focuses heavily on themes of survival, personal reinvention and the challenges of self-definition within Nigerian society.

The subject of the memoir, popularly known as the “Area Fada,” has been a mainstay in Nigerian popular culture since the 1980s. Beyond his musical career, Oputa has frequently leveraged his public platform to champion alternative lifestyles and lead advocacy campaigns on behalf of ordinary citizens and motorcycle riders in Abuja and Lagos.

The publication provides a retrospective look at how Charly Boy consistently challenged social conventions and state authority over a career spanning more than 40 years.

The publisher stated that the narrative serves as an invitation for readers to reflect on and engage with the evolution of contemporary Nigerian activism and show business.
