Anya Taylor-Joy finds watching ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ traumatising

Anya Taylor-Joy, known for her role in The Queen’s Gambit, takes on the challenging role of a younger Imperator Furiosa in the highly anticipated prequel to the iconic “Mad Max: Fury Road,” per digitalspy.com. However, Taylor-Joy confessed that the experience of watching the film was “traumatising.”

Citing an interview with Variety, the outlet reports that Taylor-Joy revealed that watching a rough cut of the film left her emotional and speechless. “Within the first three minutes, I’m crying. And afterward, I cannot speak. I found it very traumatising to watch,” she said.

The actor was drawn to the role of Furiosa, a character who doesn’t speak much, seeing parallels with her own career. “Until I was doing Furiosa, I didn’t quite realise that’s been a lot of my career — a lot of my career has played out in my eyes,” she explained.

Directed by George Miller, the film also stars Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus, along with Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, and Daniel Webber. Early reviews of the film have been overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth’s performances.

“Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth equally dive all the way into the Wasteland, and both deliver some incredible stuff,” wrote Fandango’s Erik Davis. “I love the Mad Max movies and I loved this film. Start your engines!”

The AU Review’s Peter Gray added: “Now that I can say so, Furiosa is a BLAST! Made in the spirit of Fury Road, it’s still its own beast that thrives on exaggerated action and characters. Anya Taylor-Joy makes the character her own, but this is Chris Hemsworth’s chance to prove his worth as a character actor.”

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is set to be released on May 24. Fans are eagerly waiting to see Taylor-Joy’s take on this iconic character and the pre-apocalyptic world she inhabits.
