The organisers of the review competition for Olukorede S. Yishau’s novel, After The End, have revealed the winners. The competition, which invited readers to submit their critical reviews of the novel published by Masobe Books, saw a plethora of insightful entries.
In a statement, the organisers expressed their gratitude to all participants, acknowledging the depth and engagement evident in the submissions. They also apologised for the one-day delay in announcing the winners.
First Prize: Ugochukwu Anadi
Anadi’s review stood out for its scholarly approach, offering a critical balance that situates After The End within the broader canon of African literature. His review is described as a craft in its own right.
Second Prize: Sima Essien
Essien’s review was noted for its exploration of catharsis as a creative device. It was seen as a thoughtful response to themes raised in Anadi’s review, demonstrating a profound understanding of the novel’s characters and highlights.
Third Prize: Evidence Adjarho
Adjarho’s review was praised for its originality and compassionate insight into the novel’s exploration of grief and human frailty. Her analysis was rich and evocative.
The winners received cash prizes of N150,000, N50,000 and N30,000, respectively.
