Usher has dismissed viral rumours that he used a “clone” or lookalike to perform in his place during a recent concert on The R&B Tour, per music-news.com.
The 47-year-old singer addressed the claims on Instagram after footage from his MetLife Stadium show in New Jersey sparked speculation that a doppelganger had taken the stage. He performed at the venue alongside Chris Brown last week.
Social media users questioned the clip’s authenticity, with one TikTok user claiming: “That was foul. Usher really sent out his doppelganger,” and another adding: “That is NOT Usher.”
The Grammy-winning artist insisted it was genuinely him. “Ya’ll are funny…clone? They can’t clone this??” he wrote, adding: “How ya’ll come up with this? AI ain’t that advanced.”
Usher and Brown are due to perform at Rogers Stadium in Toronto on Tuesday night.
The denial coincided with the 25th anniversary of Usher’s third studio album, 8701, which he marked on Instagram last Friday. He described the record as the project that “transformed me and truly put me on the map from a teen into a young man.”
