“Second Thoughts” set to premiere at Lagos Fringe 2025

The universally resonant theme of migration and the stark reality of chasing dreams abroad, often referred to as the “Japa” phenomenon in Nigeria, takes centre stage at the Lagos Fringe Festival 2025 with the one-man play, “Second Thoughts.”

Paw Studios, the brand behind the festival, says this production is a must-see for anyone who has contemplated leaving home for better opportunities.

The story follows a character who once commanded a successful career and a network of influence in Lagos, only to find his high-flying dreams in London reduced to mops and empty rooms.

“Second Thoughts” is described as a raw, funny and deeply human exploration of ambition, migration, and the quiet, internal battle between pride and survival. Written and performed with searing honesty, the play captures the essence of chasing a dream, losing one’s way, and the difficult process of finding meaning in the fragments that remain.

The play is produced by Instinct Pictures, a bold, Lagos-based theatre company led by Executive Producer, Emmanuel Okocha. The company is celebrated for its emotionally charged storytelling and fearless exploration of pressing social issues, including mental health, identity, migration and a host of others.

Okocha’s journey, which began with humble performances in church dramas and has progressed to founding a company that brings Nigerian theatre to global stages, is a testament to purpose and persistence. Under his leadership, Instinct Pictures has previously created thought-provoking works like From Shadows and Sour Grapes, which tackled challenging subjects often unspoken in African society, such as depression, male vulnerability and postpartum struggles.

With “Second Thoughts,” Okocha continues his mission of holding up a mirror to the silent battles faced by dreamers across the globe.

The show will run on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23,, with a performance at 3pm daily at Freedom Park, Lagos.

Entry into “Second Thoughts” requires a ticket or a Festival Pass. Attendees can opt for the Regular Festival Pass (required for entry into paid theatre shows) or the Executive Festival Pass (includes all free access benefits plus entry into exclusive events and Lagos Fringe merchandise).
