Shania Twain joins Sabrina Carpenter for surprise duet at Austin City Limits

Sabrina Carpenter delivered a massive surprise to fans at her Austin City Limits (ACL) performance, inviting country-pop icon Shania Twain to share the stage for an unforgettable duet, per faroutmagazine.co.uk.

Carpenter, who was headlining the first weekend of the festival at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas, on October 4th, paused her set to introduce the Canadian superstar.

“I thought it’d be fun to give you guys a little gift tonight, give you a little present, because you all showed up and showed out for all of us,” Carpenter told the cheering crowd. “Austin, will you please make the most noise in the world for the incredible, one and only Shania Twain!”

The unexpected pairing then electrified the audience with a rendition of Twain’s classic hit, “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” The song, originally released in 1998, was the sixth single from Twain’s hugely successful 1997 album, Come On Over.

This isn’t the first time the two singers have collaborated. They previously teamed up to sing “Santa Baby” on A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter, the one-off 2024 Christmas special.

The ACL surprise is just the latest milestone in Sabrina Carpenter’s rapidly advancing career. It was recently announced that she is set to pull double duty on Saturday Night Live, serving as both host and musical guest. While Carpenter previously appeared as a musical guest in May 2024, the upcoming episode will mark her debut as the show’s host.

Her latest single, ‘Man’s Best Friend,’ is also drawing critical attention. As Far Out previously noted, Carpenter has a knack for creating infectious, well-crafted pop: “Carpenter’s desire to deliver music meant to turn the brain off and merely enjoy and dance to, doesn’t mean that her brain was off when she made it… Any music maker will tell you that it takes talent to create a catchy tune, and whether you love or hate ‘Espresso’, it was guaranteed to be stuck in your head. Stupidity doesn’t buy that, nor does it buy a career like the one Carpenter is forging and will further forge with this new record.”
