Cardi B released her new album, Am I the Drama?, on September 19th. At the end of the first week, the project debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Am I the Drama? opened with 200,000 units, becoming her second album to top the chart. The numbers are comprised of 110,000 SEA units (145.72 million on-demand streams), 88,000 pure album sales and 2,000 TEA units.
Much of its success was due to the album being released in a variety of formats. These include a 19-song digital download album, a 20-song CD, and many vinyl versions, as well as a 23-song download and streaming edition.
Other digital versions included an iTunes Store and Apple Music edition with bonus live video tracks, a 30-track artist web store exclusive, and two expanded editions with 24 tracks.
Am I the Drama? features the singles ‘Up’ and ‘WAP‘ with Megan Thee Stallion, which reached number one on the Hot 100 chart. More recent singles include ‘Outside’, which peaked at number 10, and the Jay-Z-sampling ‘Imaginary Playerz’.
Her first album, Invasion of Privacy, debuted at number one in April 2018. The album sold 255,000 units in its first week and included major singles like ‘Bodak Yellow’, ‘Bartier Cardi’, ‘I Like It’, and ‘Be Careful’.
Speaking to Billboard about her new album, she said, “I’m not the kind of person that’s going to lock in in two months and complete an album. I’m very picky with my music. I want to put out this whole project because I have a lot of songs. I recorded 60 songs.”
She added, “Every other day, I’m a different person, I change my mind [about everything]. My team is always like, ‘I hope you don’t change your mind about your songs.’”
