Filmhouse Group partners AFFF to supercharge Africa’s film industry

Filmhouse Group has joined forces with the Africa Film Finance Forum (AFFF) 2025 in a major boost to Africa’s creative economy. This strategic partnership, according to a statement released by the company, which is West Africa’s leading entertainment powerhouse, aims to accelerate the growth of the continent’s film industry by bridging the gap between creative talent and financial investment. The three-day summit, held in Lagos from September 16-18, brought together filmmakers, investors, distributors and cultural leaders to build a sustainable and globally competitive film ecosystem.

The AFFF 2025 was guided by the ambitious theme, “Pan-African Film Economy: Building a $20 Billion Industry for 1.4 Billion People.” The discussions focused on creating practical frameworks to unlock Africa’s immense creative potential, with Filmhouse Group taking a central role in amplifying African voices and positioning them for global success.

The collaboration kicked off with a pre-cocktail event on September 15, sponsored by Filmhouse Group in partnership with the British Council. This networking session fostered meaningful conversations and connections, underscoring the commitment to nurturing collaboration within the creative economy.

“This partnership represents an important investment in Africa’s creative sector,” said Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO of Filmhouse Group. “By collaborating with the Africa Film Finance Forum, we are helping to open new avenues for funding, distribution, and collaboration that will benefit filmmakers and audiences across the continent.”

During the summit, Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer at FilmOne Entertainment (a subsidiary of Filmhouse Group), participated in a key roundtable session titled “From Vision to Viability: What Financiers Need, What Filmmakers Must Deliver.”

“At FilmOne Entertainment, we are committed to championing African storytelling,” Awobokun stated. “This partnership gives us the platform to connect local talent with investors and industry leaders to build a thriving Pan-African film economy.”

Mary Ephraim-Egbas, Convener of the AFFF, emphasised the forum’s mission to align creativity with capital. “For too long, our stories have lacked the financial frameworks to unlock their full potential. The partnership with Filmhouse Group reflects exactly the kind of synergy Africa needs: an industry leader joining forces with a platform that bridges filmmakers and financiers. Together, we are charting a path toward a $20 billion Pan-African film economy that is globally competitive and deeply reflective of the aspirations of 1.4 billion Africans.”

The AFFF 2025 was a landmark event, with discussions exploring innovative funding models, effective distribution strategies, and critical cross-border collaborations.
